San Dimas, CA- Life Pacific College Warriors (4-0) played the battle of the ages Wednesday night against Bethesda University Flames (3-0). The closest games of the season ended with an ecstatic crowd and a jaw-dropping performance from the Warriors.
#40 JUAQUIN ZAVALA started the team with 6 points in under a minute. He led a chain reaction of points until the Warriors led 11-0 over the Flames in 3 minutes. LPC sunk 6 three-pointers in Half 1 and 15 two pointers. Trent Rowser (JR/Pomona, CA) ended the half with a powerful dunk for the Warriors (38-35).
Mimicking himself from the first half, JUAQUIN ZAVALA, opened the second with 2 three-pointers. Blake Terry (SR/Modesto, CA) led the half with 17 points and had a quick opportunity for a dunk, but the Flames fouled.
The last 2 minutes felt like 2 hours. The Warriors were tied and the crowds were in a frenzy. The two teams were tied in the league and this was the tie-breaker. Mark Eden (JR/Chino, CA) sunk a free throw brought the Warriors to a 1 point lead. Right as the Flames received the ball they fouled again and gave James Noble (JR/Los Alamitos, CA) a chance to sink a free throw. Warriors are now up by 2, but the Flames have the ball. After another foul, Blake Terry made two free throws, the Flames responded with a lay-up and a +1 free throw. The score is now 89-88 Warriors with 20 seconds left. The Flames scramble with the ball and missed a throw from the three point line. They rebounded the ball, but could not connect. In the meantime, Flames fouled twice pushing the Warriors lead to (92-88)! The crowd stormed the court for a magnificent Warrior Victory!
Blake Terry led the game with 26 points, Mark Eden followed with 20, and Juaquin Zavala (JR/Paramount, CA) scored 15. James Noble and Edgardo Campos (JR/Covina, CA) but tied with 10 points in the game. Eden also led in steals with 4 and assists with 6.
