Fullerton, Calif. – Life Pacific faced off against future GSAC conference opponent, HOPE International University Royals (Fullerton, CA) at Hope's home court, Darling Pavilion. Life fell short as the Royals defeated the Warriors in three sets (16-25, 21-25, 22-25).
In the first set, LPC and Hope battled back and forth to a 11-11 tie. The Royals then went on to a 7-0 run that made the score 11-18. Life was never able to climb back out of the hole as they went on to lose the set 16-25. Life Pacific's lone Senior Jasmine Broad (SR/Ontario, CA) had 4 kills in the first set.
The second set proved to be a much tighter battle as the score was tied at 11,12,13,14, and 18 throughout the set. Jasmine Broad had 4 kills again in this set as she tried to help her team to even the match score at 1-1. Unfortunately, the Warriors were not able to retake the lead as they lost the set 21-25.
Life Pacific seemed to have found a recipe for success in the third set as they were in control by keeping the lead for the first 19 points. Multiple kills by Jordin Bishop (FR/Chino Hills, CA), Maria Pinedo (FR/Pomona, CA), Mariah Durant (SO/Orange, CA) and Jasmine Broad seemed to be exactly what the Warriors needed to force the match to a fourth set. But, the Royals refused to drop the set without one final push. Hope evened the score at 19-19 and never looked back. The Royals went on to win the set 22-25 which sent the Warriors back home to San Dimas.

Coach Sean Douglas on the match
"We struggled to find a rhythm tonight. Hope did a good job of keeping us off balance and we just couldn't get comfortable during the match. We are looking forward to the rematch in two weeks."
Life Pacific is looking to capitalize on the momentum that was built in the third set as they prepare for the rematch with the Royals in two weeks. Late in the match, LPC found a formula that was working for them as they controlled the majority of the final set. We will have to wait and see if they can bounce back in their home opener against Hope International 9/5/17 at 7:00 pm.
Before focusing on the rematch vs. Hope, LPC will have a match at San Diego Christian College 8/29/17 at 7:00 p.m. Livestream will be available at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/sdcc/.
